IDEO Reflection

            The IDEO videos gave us a look into the lives of industrial designers. These designers go through a specific process every time they are presented a project to complete. For this project, the designers remade a common shopping cart. It was nice to see exactly how the process went from start to finish because I had always wondered what industrial design project would be like. I liked the rules that these designers used every time they did a project like this. These made sure to stay focused on one subject at a time. My group definitely used this rule while doing our own project and it helped immensely to stay focused. It was also helpful to learn that they “stay visual” when brainstorming. It was a lot easier to understand my group members when they drew out their ideas on paper rather just talk about them. These videos really got me excited to work in a group just like I would in an industrial design job in the future.

For our group project, I was responsible for creating a poster for our newly designed object. I first made some quick sketches of ideas and then used photoshop and illustrator to create the poster.

This was our final idea for the poster layout. We decided to call our toothbrush holder the FreshRak. We also decided to used the sentence "For when it's rainin' toothbrushes" on our poster.

This was the first very basic outline that I created in Adobe. We still need to add quite a few things to it.

Early Sketches

Ideas For A New Toothbrush Holder

These are some of my early sketches for the new toothbrush holder. I sketched how the parts will come together and hold the toothbrushes. Magnets will be used on the base to easily separate holder for cleaning. We also decided to use arms to hang the toothbrushes. This way you wont be touching other peoples when you grab yours. This toothbrush holder will also spin so you can easily grab your own toothbrush.

Project 2

For our second project, we are taking a poorly designed object and re-designing it with prototypes. My group chose to re-design a standard toothbrush holder. Toothbrush holders can be a mess to clean up because the toothpaste eventually builds up on the base. Having multiple tooth brushes can also be a problem because you are constantly touching other peoples brushes and spreading germs. We decided to take these issues and figure out a way to solve them with a new and improved toothbrush holder.
