My Completed Poster

This is my final layout for my well-designed object poster. After I completed drawing the hand and GoPro camera, I added a reflective ground for the camera to sit on. I then added my word "Capture". Like I've said before, I wanted to keep my poster as simple and to the point as possible. I'm happy how the final poster turned out and think that it really focuses your attention on the well-designed object.

My Poster Work In Illustrator And Photoshop

Photoshop and Illustrator Work

This is an outline that I first completed in Illustrator. To do this, I traced over my pencil sketch with a Wacom drawing tablet. I didn't want to add too much detail because I thought it would take away from the object.

I then opened my new outline in Photoshop. I started adding color to the hand and to the GoPro camera. I also added some shadows and highlights to give it more of a 3D look. Next, I will add a surface for the camera to sit on, a reflection to make it more realistic, and my word "Capture" in the top left section of the poster.

After setting up the grid for my poster, I sketched my preliminary image. I carefully positioned where the camera is on the poster. I used the rule of thirds to make sure the viewer is drawn to the image. Next, I scanned this preliminary poster onto the computer. I am currently going over my sketch in Photoshop with a drawing tablet. Then it will be placed into InDesign and positioned like it is on the poster.

Inspiration For My Poster Design

My Inspiration

I feel that Apple has one of the best approaches for design in their advertisements. They use simplicity to focus the viewers eyes on what is really important. Though they do seem to have a lot of negative space, it always works well for them. They want the viewer to understand the sleekness and simplicity of their products' designs. Apple only uses what is essential for their advertisements. They usually just have a short, to the point sentence and then a view of the product.
For my poster design, I wanted to use the same principles that Apple uses to display their products. I feel this is important because the GoPro Camera focuses on the same sleek and innovative design for a high-tech device.

My Well-Designed Object: GoPro Camera


This is my first layout sketch for my poster. I wanted to make the design simple and focus on the size of the GoPro camera. I placed the front view of the camera inside the LCD screen on the back. This way, the viewer can see both the front and back of the GoPro.
